Gallery

Gilded Square Picture Framing finds it important to have space dedicated to a gallery. Michelle and Keith were also the owners of a gallery on Park Avenue several years ago called Morning’s Canvas. The signature juried show at that space was the annual “Small Show,” artwork that was no larger than seven inches in any dimension. Although small in size the artwork was anything but insignificant. Artists rose to the challenge by producing many treasures that lead Th. Metzger of City Newspaper to review:
“While this may seem like a gimmick, it turns out to have produced a lively and entertaining collection… Some of the images will linger in your mind: tiny snapshots, miniature vistas, potent little glimpses.”
Morning’s Canvas was also involved with the annual Park Avenue Festival where Keith could be found creating a large scale painting or sculpture in front of the house that was as much a performance piece as it was an artwork.
Gilded Square Gallery will begin by doing monthly shows of individual artists. The inaugural exhibit in September 2009 featured Michelle Michael and Keith Uhrich, followed by Chistina Laurel. Looking into the planned schedule for the months to come the gallery will have: Lynne Feldman, Barbara Fox, Cinda Kelly, Margaret Beth Bigelow, Jason Tennant, Kate Edwards, Ron Palozzi, and Paul Brandwein. Along with each show having a reception, Gilded Square will also be a participant in the First Friday’s event. Galleries all over Rochester agree to be open on the first Friday of every month. Further information can be found at : www.firstfridayrochester.org.
Gilded Square will be mounting shows that involve all kinds of artwork. Both two and three dimensional artwork will be shown as the space permits. As a frame shop, the opportunity presents itself to be able to offer two dimensional art the best possible framing solutions for shows in the gallery. Gilded Square Gallery looks forward to having exciting shows that will challenge both the artist and the viewer.
